A Message from the President

Dr. Solis

The 2026-2027 academic year at South Texas College will be a year of brand-new programs and partnerships bringing numerous opportunities and advanced technical training to our students and the community.

STC is still one of the fastest growing colleges in the state with six campuses in Hidalgo and Starr Counties, and offering more than 130 programs, with an enrollment of more than 30,000 academic, technical workforce training and continuing education students.

This year, STC will officially begin its new Dental Hygiene program, open two new buildings – Kinesiology and Wellness Center and Continuing Education and Testing Center, plus, we’ll expand our educational and workforce partnerships through new industries and health care facilities entering our region.

In the fall, we will also introduce a new artificial intelligence (AI) program that offers a certificate and associate degree pathway and provides students with technical training in the most in-demand and advanced technological program designed to meet workforce demands.

With the recent implementation of STC’s Valley Promise program that serves as a last-dollar scholarship to fully cover eligible students’ tuition, funded by prominent statewide and national partners and STC’s Foundation, and our new JagReconnect adult promise program focused on covering the tuition of stop-out students who are returning to finish their certificates or associate degrees, students have the help they need to make their educational dreams come true.

STC remains on the national map as the No. 1 Hispanic-Serving Institution in the nation by Washington Monthly and through continued success with its Registered Nurse Apprenticeship, registered by the Department of Labor, dual credit programs and bachelor’s and online programs, that are positively impacting college and workforce readiness.

With full support from our Board of Trustees, we will continue creating bold solutions and innovative initiatives that move STC forward with confidence and pride.

Along with supportive faculty and staff, engaging technology and resources such as counseling, advising, tutoring and student food pantries, STC ensures that our students find success in college and beyond.

It is my sincere hope that you will enjoy the adventure that awaits as STC Jaguars and that the memories you make here, are ones you’ll cherish forever. Paws Up!

Sincerely,
