Beginning Spanish I for Non-Spanish Speakers

Spanish 1411 is a comprehensive first semester beginning Spanish course designed for students with little or no previous knowledge of Spanish. This course includes instruction and practice in all four basic language skills of speaking, reading, writing, and listening with attention to selected aspects of Hispanic culture. While one of the goals is to learn the basic grammatical structures of the Spanish language, the emphasis will not be on isolated structures but rather on integrating grammar into proficiency-oriented activities. This course will include hands-on activities and computerized based exercises to enhance learning.

SPAN 1412
Beginning Spanish II for Non-Spanish Speakers

This course is the continued development of basic Spanish language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing within a cultural framework. Students acquire the vocabulary and grammatical structures necessary to communicate and comprehend at the high beginner to low intermediate level.

Prerequisite: SPAN 1411.

SPAN 2311
Intermediate Spanish I

This course is a comprehensive Intermediate Spanish course designed to provide students with the linguistic and learning skills required for successfully completing upper division courses in Spanish. This course includes review of literature, culture and grammar. Furthermore, this course will develop and enhance all language skills through reading of short stories, presentation/discussion, vocabulary expansion, and writing analytical literary reviews.

Prerequisite: SPAN 1411 and SPAN 1412 and completion of or concurrent enrollment in INRW 0020.

SPAN 2312
Intermediate Spanish II

This courses is a comprehensive Intermediate Spanish course designed to provide bilingual students with the linguistic and learning skills required for successfully completing upper division courses in Spanish. This course includes review of literature, culture and grammar. Furthermore, this course will develop and enhance all language skills through reading, presentation/discussion, and writing analytical literary reviews. In addition, writing skills will be developed, with emphasis on experimenting with various writing styles: analytical, argumentative, descriptive, narrative and creative.

Prerequisite: SPAN 2311.

SPAN 2313
Spanish for Native/Heritage Speakers I

This course builds upon existing proficiencies of heritage speakers of Spanish. Enhances proficiencies in the home-based language by developing a full range of registers including public speaking and formal written discourse. Emphasis on comprehension, appreciation, and interpretation of the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. This course is considered equivalent to SPAN 2311.

Prerequisites: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in INRW 0020.

SPAN 2315
Spanish for Native/Heritage Speakers II

This course is a second semester course. The course builds upon existing proficiencies of heritage speakers of Spanish. Academic Cooperative

This course is an instructional program designed to integrate on-campus study with practical hands-on work experience. In conjunction with class seminars, the individual student will set specific goals and objectives in the study of Spanish language and literature.

Prerequisite: Completion of six hours in Spanish.
