Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will evaluate diverse works of music using essential musical skills of listening and music analysis.
  2. Students will apply skills of genre specific musical style and music theory to their individual and music ensemble performances.
  3. Students will demonstrate the ability to read and write music using essential theoretical principles of melody, harmony and rhythm.
  4. Students will identify musical works and products of history, society, and culture by describing the impact societal and cultural pressures had on individual composers and the composition of specific musical works.
  5. Students will identify musical time periods, canonical works, and significant composers in Western art music by applying the skills of active listening and musical analysis to aural and notated examples.
