A Message from the President

Welcome to the 2022-23 academic year at South Texas College!

While we are still navigating unprecedented times, we have begun to find our footing – to see the beginnings of a new normal for our college community.

Our enrollment numbers are up again to almost 30,000 students – a testament to the region’s commitment to higher education. And, South Texas College remains steadfast in its mission of promoting student access and success with more online and remote learning opportunities being offered.

We are working hard to bring new learning opportunities to our community with the announcement of additional programs to come soon.

We are committed to being responsive to the needs of industry. In recent months we have started a CDL institute and announced a new multi-million partnership with Hidalgo County that will help STC hire more nursing instructors and graduate more nurses into our medically underserved area – at least 500 by next year, more than all the other Valley colleges combined.

We are forging new university partnerships and reinforcing old ones. Of great note to the region, we’ve been working closely with UTRGV to align our programs and provide STC graduates a seamless transition.

We are working to start a Foundation and raise funds for student scholarships so that every deserving student – no matter the economic background – gets an opportunity at realizing their dreams.

In short, we are moving our institution forward.

The work doesn’t come without great support from the campus community, the faculty and staff who are committed to their jobs and to the success of our students.

And, South Texas College is fortunate to have the great support of its Board of Trustees, all its elected officials, community leaders and countless alumni who understand how this college is positively impacting the community and the region it serves.

As an incoming student, we urge you to take advantage of all the opportunities that are laid before you. Take advantage of all that is being offered to ensure your success including financial aid, counseling advising and tutoring.

We, in turn promise to prioritize community health as we work to provide you with a quality education worthy of any Jaguar past or present. Paws UP!

Sincerely,

Dr. Ricardo J. Solis
President
