Associate of Arts

The Associate of Arts with a field of study in Graphic Arts is a program of study that combines studio courses in art and design with a broad range of liberal arts courses. The two-year degree program prepares students for creative positions in the workforce, and provides skills, values and knowledge in the liberal and creative arts. Additionally, students are prepared for transfer into university bachelor’s degree programs and are trained in computer graphics software and portfolio preparation.

Program Learning Outcomes

1. Students will demonstrate the ability to communicate concepts of design.
2. Students will analyze and integrate trends of contemporary design to produce original works, using computer-based media.
3. Students will demonstrate critical thinking skills by communicating specific concepts using photographic imagery.
4. Students will demonstrate competency in applying the steps of the effective workflow as it relates to graphic design.
5. Students will demonstrate creative thinking by creating appropriate visual images for specific audiences or occasions.

NOTE: Additional materials and supplies may be required. It is the responsibility of the student to purchase these materials when needed.

In addition to the courses in the Field of Study, the student is required to take 42 credit hours from the STC Core Curriculum. These courses must not duplicate courses taken to fulfill field of study requirements.

Students who select a 3 credit hours Mathematics course to fulfill the Mathematics component of the Core Curriculum must take 4 credit hours to complete the Component Area Option for the Core Curriculum.
