Occupational Skills Award

This OSA was created for students interested in a career as a facility maintenance worker, as well as those currently working in a building trades-related profession who want to expand their proficiencies. This program provides training on basic electrical systems, construction and air conditioning in the commercial and residential setting. Students can continue for an Electrician Assistant, Construction Supervision Assistant, or Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology Certificate.

Construction Supervision Assistant

The Construction Supervision Assistant Certificate program will prepare students to serve as assistants to a construction supervisor or project manager. The skills acquired will prepare the student to assist a Construction Manager, Project Manager or Superintendent in the supervision and management of projects related to construction of commercial, industrial, residential buildings, engineering projects like roads, bridges and utility systems. Construction includes both new construction and remodeling, additions, maintenance and repairs. The student will focus on acquiring the skills necessary to assist in the monitoring of construction processes to include but not limited to, construction safety, construction estimating, building codes and inspections and construction management duties.

Graduates of the program will be prepared for entry level positions such as junior estimator, assistant of construction superintendents, program managers and/ or general contractors.

Construction Supervision

Associate of Applied Science

The Construction Supervision program will prepare students for supervision and management careers related to construction of commercial, industrial, residential buildings, engineering projects like roads, bridges and utility systems. Construction includes both new construction and remodeling, additions, maintenance and repairs.

The Construction Supervision student will focus on acquiring the skills necessary to monitor, direct and conduct supervision processes to include but not limited to construction safety, planning, scheduling, coordinating, estimating, construction tools and techniques, and supervising all or part of the construction activities. Additionally, students will develop skills in hiring and oversight of specialty trade contractors, accessing risk and safety factors on site.

Graduates of the program will be prepared for entry level positions such as assistant construction superintendent, junior estimator, program manager or general contractor for property owners, developers or construction management firms.
