The Bachelor of Science in Nursing RN-to-BSN online program will prepare graduates for leadership and management positions in a health care facility.

Graduates of this program will provide valuable expertise in the area of health care systems management, leadership, research, community, public, global health policy and legal issues related to the health care industry.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program Requirements

Application Requirements

The admission requirements for this program will follow the South Texas College general admission policy. The RN-to-BSN program will require the following additional requirements. The applicant must:

• Admitted to South Texas College through submission of an online application (ApplyTexas.org)
  • Issued a South Texas College ID Number (A#)
  • Issued a JagMail Account
• Documents Required:
  • Current, unencumbered RN License to practice in Texas or an Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact RN License
  • Official transcripts of record that include the following:
    • Conferred Associate of Applied Science – Associate Degree Nursing (AAS-ADN)
    • With a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
    • Completed at least a minimum of 30 credits of Core Curriculum with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Information Session Certificate of Completion
  • Personal letter of intent and curriculum vitae detailing academic career and professional experience
  • Two letters of professional recommendation from faculty members or employers
  • Completed and signed Functional Abilities Standard Requirements Form

Degree Completion Requirements

Minimum Completion Requirements

• Complete the appropriate course of study for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing: RN-to-BSN program as specified in the College catalog. Developmental or other non-credit coursework does not apply toward graduation requirements.
• South Texas College will accept a maximum of 90-semester credits of applicable course work transferred from another accredited college or university toward a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree granted by STC.
• Completion of at least 31 credit hours in 3000 level courses or higher of which at least 18 must be completed at STC.
• Maintain a minimum average of “B" (3.0 G.P.A.) for all courses in the area of specialization and a minimum cumulative average of “C” (2.0 G.P.A. in all other courses).
• Pay all debts to the College prior to graduation.

Lower-Division Requirements

STC Core Curriculum (42 Credit Hours)

The student is required to take 42 semester credit hours from the STC Core Curriculum.

Students beginning the Bachelor of Science in Nursing RN-to-BSN Degree Program upper-level coursework upon completion of the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Associate Degree in Nursing must complete an additional 27 general education credit hours in order to fulfill the forty-two (42) credit hour general education Core Curriculum required at South Texas College.

Required Lower-Division Course Work (47 Credit Hours)

The student is required to complete 47 semester credit hours of coursework from an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Associate Degree in Nursing. The 47 semester credit hours are listed below.

Upper-Division Requirements

Prerequisites for Upper-level Coursework

• Completion of an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Associate Degree Nursing from a regionally accredited institution with at least fifteen (15) credit hours in general education coursework or
• A minimum GPA of 2.5 in previous coursework.

Required Upper-Division Course Work (31 Credit Hours)

The upper-division Bachelor of Science in Nursing RN-to-BSN major courses educate students in health care systems management, finance, leadership, research, evidence-based, community and population health, public and global health policy, and legal issues related to the health care industry.
