Music Theory I

This course involves the analysis and writing of tonal melody and diatonic harmony up to and including 7th chords. Analysis and writing of small compositional forms and correlated study at the keyboard is also included. Corequisite: MUSI 1116.

This course involves singing more difficult tonal music including modal, ethnic, and 20th century materials. Aural study, including dictation of more complex rhythm, melody, chromatic harmony, and extended tertian structures is also covered. Corequisite: MUSI 2211.

MUSI 2211

Music Theory III

This course contains advanced harmony part writing and keyboard analysis and writing of more advanced tonal harmony, including chromatics and extended tertian structures. It includes an introduction to 20th century compositional procedures, survey of the traditional large forms of compositional and correlated study at the keyboard. Corequisite: MUSI 2116.

Music Theory IV
